I notice when I am close to the speakers it sounds better, but when i am further away it is not as good.Is it an equalizing issue? or compression? How could I edit these in audition?

add some top end sparkle with some eq and some parralel compression

Try adding a couple dB of EQ gain at 17K/shelving and see if that "opens up" the clarity. You can also take away a bit at 140hz at a narrow bandwidth and see if that helps get the "mud" out. A bit of compression will even out the dynamics and make the lyric more audible. The "trend' these days is to 'crush' the vocal with heavy compression, and then put it on top of the mix. Maybe that's what you're looking for... try it and see how it works for you. Good luck! :-)
