how can i get that old record sound?

i know a little of people want to get rid of it, but for this one song i would like to put the crackle and poping in it but subtle. i don't have a set of turntables to sample it from. is there a plugin, technique or download site i can go to?

i got it, and its pretty nice i assume. however, it seems to use a hell of a lot of CPU (in my case at least).

You could sample some "real" static off of an old LP. :cool:
 
Here's a fun way. Take a polythene shopping bag (a crisp/chip bag will do). Stick a mic on a stand about a foot away. Gently crinkle the bag. Mix to taste.

It works, and it's fun, too!

apply it destructively in your audio editor.

you are the friggin low tech king of the day. i just happen to have a bag of chips next to me when i read your post.

i'm gonna try it as soon as this darn thunder storm blows over because it sounds right to my ears.

I used a half full bag of Utz Sour Cream and Onion.
 
try using a joe meek pre also, it warms the tones like tha olden days

Do you really feel that Sour Cream & Onion will yield the best vinyl tone? Personally I feel that Ridged Chips give a cleaner edge and a crisper signal. :D
 
I don't think they had ridges on chips back in the vinyl days, did they? Better use the plain (non-ridged) potato chip bag to be on the safe side.
 
In my opinion there's nothing like a big bag of Sun Chips (tm) on a midsummer day's float down the river.
I remember the first time I had a bag of Sun Chips (tm). Paw and I decided to take a stroll on the ol Sandy river. We set off in an 8 man raft and headed downstream. Then my dad looked at me with a grin and said, "looky what I got! but shhhhhh don't tell mom!" and from under his life preserver out came a bag of regular flavored Sun Chips (tm). They were so good that day it was like we were doing something bad!
It wasnt untill now that I found out why. Aperently my REAL dad choked to death on Sun Chips (tm) when I was too young to remember. But oh man, where those Sun Chips (tm) good!

This thread is about chips right?
