How can I disable "F1" as the hot-key for "Help"?

I'd like to reassign F1 to control a different key command than help. Whenever I try to enter "F1" as a value in the Key Commands assigner, it jumps into the "Help" menu without allowing me to assign the key.

Is there any way to accomplish what I'm shooting for here?

Might try this from Cubase Book from Mark Wherry

I have a reference manual by Mark Wherry........just full of things about Cubase SX-SL. On page 678 he has a page about Setting up the tool modiferer keys. Don't know if will help but here is what is said.

1. Open the preferences dialog from the file menu and select the Editing-tool modifiers page..when it loads
2. Locate the action for which you want to edit the modifier key, by selecting an option in the Categories list.
3. Select the action in the Action list.
4. Hold down the desired modifier key(s) and click the Assign Button. Now the current modifier key for the action is replaced. If the moidfier key you pressed are alrady assigned for this tool, you will be asked whether you want to repalce them.
5. When finished...click OK to close the dialog.

I have not tried it with the F2 function...but it might help.

Choctaw.

You might be able to do it as a registry hack.. Not sure exactly where to look though. Somewhere under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Cubase.

Go on and assign the command you want to something that'll be easy to search on like the # symbol.
From there do a search for # and find the string attached to it.
Go back and reassign the button to F2 and go back into the registry to the location you found it before and adjust the assignment to the F1 equiv.. I'm not sure exactly how the registry stores or decodes the F keys, but it's in there somewhere..

That may not make a bit of sense outside of my mind and it may not even work, but it's a possibility..
