Can any one give me a quick step by step tutorial on how to burn a song I created on Sonar xl to a CD. l'd like to be able to play on any cd player?

THANKS

You first need to save it in a audio format. (wav or mp3)
When you do that you can then burn it in creator or whatever burning software you use.

I'm not sure if XL will let you save as mp3 but you can probably save it as a wav.

When you convert from a wav to an MP3, you lose audio fidelity, thats why it is described as a "near CD quality" and not CD Quality. On the other hand, you can store huge numbers (relatively speaking) of MP3's on a CD instead of the 12 or so of CD audio tracks. Yer pays yer money and takes yer pick.

The best way of burning a cd from sonar is to export your track/s as a wav and then burn to a cd using something like Adaptec easy CD creator, given away free with zillions of CDR's. What wav to cd burning software do you have?

One thing I would also add, is that it may be best to search on these forums before posting your question as this is the third thread on this same subject in the last few days;)

Anything over 160k sounds outstanding. Do 256k and you need lab instuments to hear the difference.

So Paul, Creator also converts wavs to audio?
Damm, I feel stupid. I've used the program 1000 times and didn't know that. I usually exported to a high bitrate mp3. (to save space)...........

Thanks for the help.

I tried all off your tips but my song continues to come up in individual files when I go to burn it. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I am using easy cd creater, so when I'm ready to burn I go in to the sonar folder and try to retreive the song, the files are saved but not in a song format a bunch of seperate files come up in wav format...

Am I missing a step. Hope you understand what I mean.
Thanks again.

First, don't crosspost. Second you need to mix your multi track down to a stereo .wav file and remember where you stored it. Next when you open EZ CD creator, drag your two track .wav into it and make sure you burn it "DISC AT ONCE".

Guys I'm a straight newjack to this so please bare with me..Please give me detail instructions.

How do I mix multi track down to a stereo .wav file ?

Thanks for the help

I've not used Sonar but if it's anything like Cakewalk, under Tools there should be a couple of options like "mix to new track" and "export audio". Really either one will do the job. Mix to new track will mix everything and drop the result on a new track. Exporting will mix it down and will prompt you for a location to store it in and a file name (which would be the name of your tune).

This is from memory as I'm at work now - but it should go like this:

1. Open Sonar and load your project (song).
2. Edit -> Select - > All
3. File -> Export Audio
4. Choose .wav format and whatever options you want (e.g., 16 bit or 24 bit) and give the file a name. Also, choose the location that you want to export the file to.

You should end up with a single, stereo (assuming you chose stereo) .wav file of your song.

Dachay is right but I mix down all my individual tracks to a single stereo track and I just highlight that one track and then File> Export Audio etc same as dachay posted. If I have more than one track to export, I just hold down the shift key and then highlight by left clicking on each of the track numbers that you want to export and then File> Export audio etc.

Thank you very much fellas. I will try this once I get out of my stinkin job...

You can do it either way - just a matter of preference.

I find the step of mixing everything down to a single track within the same CW file to be an unnecessary additional step (and makes your "buns" bigger if you backup to bundle files) - but whatever floats your boat. Either way will work.

so that's what doing that - I thought it was all the Ben and Jerry's consumed while overdubbing
