My brother is a drummer, and use to be up to par, he hasn't played so much lately, but he dislikes Rush.

I have heard other drummers say they dislike Rush also.

Isn't that like a racecar driver disliking Nascar?

No, that is like a Nascar fan hating the guy who talks big and show boats but never actually wins a race.

Except that NP doesn't talk big, and it's not a race.

So not very much like that at all.

:)

See what you posted... it actually says these people dislike Rush. I think that's perfectly fair. Neil Peart is amazing, but I don't really like Rush.

And I can understand why people may not like Neil himself. I think there are MANY bands where the music is fantastic, and the musicians are great, but they're all ****heads, or at least people I wouldn't feel I had to like just because they're talented.

Exactly. I respect him as a drummer, and even like some of their music...But they don't "move" me. I don't feel it, and that's what's important to me.

So, by extension, I'm not a huge Neil Peart fan, even though I realise he can play circles around me. Having said that, I've seen them live 3 times and enjoyed it.

Then again, if we want to talk about getting blown away by a drummer, I go to Drummerworld and watch Buddy Rich playing a 4-piece kit in a 3-piece suit, and it's "Neil Who?"

I've got nothing against rush, and obviously Neil Peart is a more amazing drummer than I could be in a hundred years, but I don't really like his drumming... Everybody looks to him as some kind of God and I don't really get it. Sure, he's an incredible player, but I'd rather listen to a drummer who can change the feel of a song, a drummer is there to make the band sound better - Mickey Curry is a good example of that IMO.

I may be off base here, I'm not a rush fan and therefore should probably not make this comment, but I've never heard Neil Peart play anything that he didn't overplay. There is no question that the man has talent, but talent is not what makes a good drummer, it's what a drummer does with his talent that makes him good. And in that respect in my opinion, Neil Peart is not that good although immensely talented.

that's why i don't like rush. i find absolutely no emotional content in their music.

all you haters just need to begin the day with a friendly voice, a companion unobtrusive. plays that song that's so elusive and the magic music makes your morning mood.

lol. you hate rush but like tool? tool? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. :p

...wait.....

........why is that funny?

I really only have listened to Moving Pictures. My friends have had the other albums, but after I discovered Van Halen Rush sounded to Mechanical and calculated to me.

What I do like about Moving Pictures is that it made me feel like I was in a drum set.

I would say that and worse concerning Rush. Especially the vox.
I tend to disagree concerning Tool.
...one mans treasure I geuss... ;)

...unless your talking about Rush. Then its just garbage. :D

Why would you even care if a drummer does not like Rush. Big deal, everyone has different taste. I like Rush personally, but I am not one of those people who think there is something wrong with a drummer if he is not into Rush.

I am a guitar player. Does that mean I am supposed to like Steve Vai? Well, he is a great guitar player, alright, but I really don't like listening to him play at all. To be honest I'd rather listen to Green Day or the Who. Okay, so now your gonna blast me and say, "but those guys suck ... they can't play like Steve Via ... you must really suck too." But wait I say, “I do like Jimmy Page and Hendrix.” Does that make me at least a little better?

Cause I like to manipulate and tell people what they should and shouldn't like.

Because I can't stand it when people like to manipulate and tell people what they should and shouldn't like.
