I noticed how the top 10 best guitarists thread seems to have attracted a lot of responses. Although I agree it’s essentially pointless they are good fun anyway. I thought it would be interesting to do the same thing for electric bass players, lets say Top 10 favourite rather than best because its less contentious. My guess is that many of them will correspond to bands with top 10 guitarists so I’m expecting to see Flea rather a lot.

Here’s my top 10

Jaco Pastorius
Anthony Jackson
Marcus Miller
Bernard Edwards
Nathan Watts
Chuck Rainey
Louis Johnson
Duck Dunn
Mark King (very 80’s I know but did a lot to raise the profile)
Lemmy (for being Lemmy)

Les Claypool, how could you forget :)

Primus @ the Pinkpop festival '98.
Best concert I've ever seen. And the crowd jumped to an earthquake of 1.2 on the Richter scale.

Wow, I don't know if I can think of ten, but here goes...

Jaco Pastorius
Baron Brown
Billy Sheehan
John Pattitucci
Atom Ellis
Rocco Prestia
Gary Willis
Stu Hamm
Roger Waters
...And though he may be disqualified: Charlie Hunter
The man plays an 8 string guitar; 5 guitar strings and 3 bass strings! And neither suffer!

I guess I could think of ten!!!
:D

Chris Squire
Leland Sklar
Alphonso Johnson
Pete Trewavas
John Paul Jones
Michael Rutherford

......and of course myself

Geezer Butler..

Steve Harris..

Geddy Lee..

Doug Wimbush..

John Entwistle

Hmmm...

Paul McCartney, Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, John Entwistle are easy choices...

I would definitely have Mark King on my list...very underrated.

also Doug Pinnick of King's X (good style, great sound)

How the hell did I miss Bootsie and Aardvark....Doh....

It is incredably sad that Aardvark has given up playing, I have never met his equal with 4,5 or 6 strings....Anybody in the DFW area who ever saw Daddys Soul Donut can testify to that...
