is 6 inches good. i heard that 8 would be best but i always see guys with 6 inch woofers.

It's not the size that counts...

...but rather how you use it!!!

 (sorry... someone HAD to say it!!!)

Actually... I *AM* serious...

...you listen to the monitors, if you like 'em you take 'em home and learn how to mix on them. If they are bass-shy then you learn very quickly not to pump the bass levels or you risk blowing the systems of anyone you pass your music on to. Conversely, if you get monitors with TONS of low-end (ie, large woofer), then you still have to learn where to put your bass levels (because where you think they sound right on your system will make them bass-shy for someone listening on a boombox.)

So audition monitors and buy a pair because you like how they sound, NOT because of the size of their woofers, or their color, or their specs... you listen with your ears, not your eyes.

Well actually.......

We've now got 8" woofers in our Event 20/20 and 15" woofers in our Genelecs. Both produce the same amount of bottom end but the Genelecs have a higher SPL i.e. go louder before breakup. ;)
cheers

I bought the Event PS6's because I thought the PS8's would produce too much bass for the size of my bedroom studio. I believe the room is about 12' by 12'. I read an article in a magazine that explained why the standing waves, bass response, etc. could cause problems. Just something to think about.

Bruce- some of us don't have to make the excuse "it's the size that counts" ! ( I couldn't resist)

He-he... I forgot to preface that post with "Although I've never had to worry about it...." :D

alright, enough with this crap about "it's the size that counts", come on guys save that shit for the Dragon Cave!

Hey Frank....... why do you care what we do to this thread now? You already got your answer!

(Could it be that maybe this whole "size thing" embarrasses you???)

:D :D :D

I date small women just in case the "theory of relativity" comes up.

Cool!

Man, I didn't think anyone was carrying those Trias anymore. I'm pretty sure I just ordered some from 8th Street, but they haven't confirmed my order yet.

Thanks C7, I owe you one! Maybe I'll let you win a political argument sometime! ;)

Bruce, man if you want to compare size, just say the word and you will see a nice, HUGE picture of my Mr. Johnson, my Willy Wonka, my... well you get the picture.

I have no shame Bruce so watch out!

Well what could I of said; now just for the record, I ant no fruity loop.

so what is actually a good speaker

???????????????... around $300

The 20/20's and the YSM-1 are better then those you mentioned. Keep in mind these monitors have no power supply. You could get powered 20/20's but that's about $800. Event is the company that makes the 20/20's but if the 20/20's are too expensive then look into the lower end Event monitors like the Ps-8, Ps6, or Ps-5. The Ps series are all powered, and the best Ps model (Ps-8) is about $650.

hmm, one more that i was wondering if anyone knew about..., the audix studio 1A. I am checking into the ones you mentioned previously.
