How are you guys making your drum tracks??

Just curious how you guys make your drum tracks without a real drummer? I have sampletank 2Xl and a midi keyboard but I really suck and don't like hammering out drum beats. I tried taking midi files from popular songs and running the drum tracks through Sampletank to no avail. All I got was bings and bongs and the odd drum sound. Working with IKmultimedia support to try and overcome the issue.

I need something simple like a drum machine but better with more control.
 
Two words: loop discs.


How does one use these in more than two words?? I have tried with loops that I made but had trouble getting them to sync up properly!
 
What's your set-up? Computer, and if so what software? Stand alone DAW?
 
I am running a Protools Digi001 with 5.3.1 for xp. Pc is a P4 3.0 with 1 gig of ram running win xp.
