How am I recording the radio thru my guitar?

OK - apologies if this is off-topic......

I am using Sonar 2.1 XL with an Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 sound card. My guitar is plugged into a Laney head, the line out of which is plugged into the sound card.

Levels are cool and I can record everything OK, but I seem to be picking up radio noise from somewhere?????

I guess this is some sort of weird electronic effect where the leads are acting as some sort of antenna - any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks,

Q.

You can try to move the amp to a different part of the room. Sometimes it's sitting in just the right spot to pick up this type of interference. Also, do you have a wah pedal hooked up in there? these things are notorious for catching radio frequencies. It's real nice when you're on stage in front of a room full of people and your amp starts cranking out baseball scores and Bud commercials !!

Thanks - I will try that out - it is currently sitting in the corner of the room with a bunch of power cables nearby...... No wah-wah though.....

I would try now, but I liked the sound so much, I am now recording it intentionally.......Volume swells on a single strummed chord every two bars, with increasing radio signal sounds sorta cool when you actually WANT it there!

Do you or anyone know the science behind this?

Thanks again,

Q.

Are you using grounded (to earh) cables?

Hmmm...... probably not - I think I am just using the same old guitar leads that have been kicking around my case for the last ten years......

Why is it that everything to do with digital audio is automatically fixed by spending more cash? :)

I love it, my wife hates it......

I do have some grounded cables that I can test with. I will check it out.

Thanks,

You know the Police song, "Does Everyone Stare?" In the song, just before the lyrics begin there's what sounds like a sample from a radio broadcast of someone singing "O Solo Mio." This might not be true, but I heard that while they were recording that tune, Andy Summer's guitar picked up a radio station, and they thought it was so cool they left it in as an effect. (It's easier to believe they liked what happened and then while mixing flew in a sample and had more control over its clarity and exact placement in time... but hey, I'm a cynic.)
