I love the way my Fender Strat (Mexican) plays, but I'm
not too keen on it's sometimes wimpy sound.

I was told to put a Seymour Duncan "Hot Rail" in it.
Any body else recommend this ?

Hey i would really suggest it. Ive done it to my strat style guitar. it used to have 3 single coils in it, now it has a hot rail in the back pickup. the hotrail will really add a nice sizzle to your overdrive/distortion.

I play mainly metal music, so going through that type of set up allows me to roll the voluem knob back and forth to get just the right gain i need. wide open it really has a great tone with the maple neck on guitar.

I could see it working for just about any type of music depending on your amp setup. all in all i would go for it.

good luck

Right on !

Thanks for the info, I'm going to go for it.

There's a boat load of pickup choices out there. Check out the pickup manufactures sites (like Duncan, etc.). Many have sound bits (wav files, etc.) that will help you get an idea of what various pickups sound like.

I've got MIM strat with a Dano lipstick on the bridge, Duckbuster in the middle and a Lace on the neck. For me that combo works great - but there's a lot of choices for heavier sounds as well. I had a hot rail on there for awhile, but I didn't particularly like it - If I had checked out the manufacturers sites, it probably would have saved me some time.
