I just put this together today, everything is pretty much first take. It is going with other songs for submission for my album, so when it gets actually produced and recorded in the real studio, I'll post it to let you hear the difference. I think it's probably a little bass heavy, I just moved to a new room, I havent figured it out yet.

Anyways, recorded with this stuff: N-Track, Delta44, Apex430 thru Symetrix 528 for vox, PRS ce22 thru tube Echoplex thru Fender Prosonic with a SM57 thru Art TubePac, Fender Jazz bass direct through Echoplex (It colors the tone nicely), drums is crappy PC Drummer Pro.

Lemme know what you think of the song.

its pretty good. the bass line gets a little repetitive after awhile, and it sounds more like a riff than a good bass line. Nice wah guitar. The song goes up a level in the B sections, and becomes more interesting to me. the verses are ok, but need something more to keep the interest there. not too bass heavy to me...unless you meant the volume of the bass gtr...which is a bit too loud for me...but the bass/treble balance...seems ok.

Vocals sound cool, very nice. The bass is a little repetitive, and it's almost a little too phat for the genre. It would be more in place in electronica. The guitar sounds a little 2-dimensional to me, like it needs to be in space a little more. A reverb might help there, and maybe a little creative panning.

p.s. when did those goddam popup windows start happening? Everything does this now, and it pisses me off.

Good songwriting.

The drums need some control. The snare could profit a lot from a bit of compression. The cymbals kinda jumps out at you now and then...

Guitars could be a little bit more upfront..

Good song Mike..

Thanks for the comments guys.

First thing is that PC Drummer Pro just stinks, it's really hard to control the levels, and its just not very good sounding...but its all I got right now. I agree there's some spice missing to make it pop, it is a bit repetitive. I'd like to figure it out before those producing my album get ahold of it, but they are great and will really kick it up, I just wish I could figure it out on my own. I think I'll try altering the bass line a bit with some fills or something and see what happens.

Thanks again!

Hey H2H:

Checked it out.

The first thing that hits my ears is the annoying drum track, but that has already been confirmed :D

If it had a real drummer on it, I would back off the frequency of the crash hits.

Having jammed with you, I know you are an excellent Guitarist, so I wanted to hear a longer lead at the end.

Kind of a muddy mix, too many lows..

Good vocals, maybe you should groel it out a little more at the chorus.

I liked the lyrics, very well-constructed.

Good job.

hey,

I thought you had bought a delta 1010. What happened to that?

I dug the vox. Very big. It had an unnatural boost in the extreme high end though.

I wont comment about the drums since you used a software proggy.

Basically, it sounded like a rough mix. I cna see this mix going big by the final mix.

You need to pan stuff to make it bigger. I agree with what charge said about the bass although I think its a phat sounding bass.
Nice vocal performance. how much does thew 430 cost. It sounds quite smooth.

Dougie-
I had to try and chop it for that magical radio mark of 3 min. It was already 3:20, and it started at like 4:30....It's hard to write music to be played on radio, it has to be short to get attention. Thanks for the input, be assured it will have a real (really great) drummer on the final mix...these are more "ideas" that I give to my producers and we mold the song from there.
CJ-
I still have the 1010, but it doesnt help me with drums, I need a sequencer or something. What I really need is FruityLoops!! The 430 cost me $199 with an Art TubeMP, an xlr cable, and a nice spider shockmount...the Art "Studio Hot Pack". I didn't give any EQ on the upper end for the vox, just rolled off the lows....so I guess thats in the mic.

The bass has been mentioned alot....it is a Fender Jazz into a tube echoplex direct into my Mackie mixer. I put the tiniest bit of software compresion after the tracking, but it's pretty much as-is. The tube Echoplex made it REALLY big.

I have a rough time with panning, since I am working with sparse tracking...there are 2 electric guitars which are panned about 9 and 3 o'clock, but besides vox, all I have is bass and drums, I don't pan bass...and the drums are kinda set with my limitations.

Thanks again!

very good songwriting....almost as good as me:D

i wont comment on the mix as it is only a demo.......

my only question is who the heck is this??????

Oh man, that picture is about 5 years old.

I put up a new mix, did some stuff. Unfortunatly, the same drums. That will get overdone by a real drummer on the real mix. Tell me what you think of what I did to the vocal, I kinda like it. :)

H2H,

Really nice,
I especially liked the sound of your guitars, how did you get that great sound, I could swear one was a banjo.

I dug the vocals too!

Looking foward to hearing the final product.

My guitar sound is partially the Echoplex, it gives guitar a wonderful color I think. Also, a Dunlop Crybaby in the middle positions makes a really cool, filtered kind of sound. All of that running through a class A tube amp, and it's a great sound!
Thanks for listening!

the new mix sounds cleaner and bigger at the same time.

my ears are almost insensitive right now since I was listening loud but cant anymore cos of the neighbor.

I will listen first thing tomorrow. I like how the vox came more forward in the chorus. How did you do that?

Drawing volume envelopes in N-Track. It's a great tool for PC multitracking that I don't take advantage of enough. I also took off the delay for the chorus. The way I re-did the mix was to set everything back to 0 and take it one track at a time and even things out.
