Host based solution with physical control surface...

Hi Folks,

I am aware of Paris, and this may be the best solution, but are there any others out there? I am also aware that automation can be done in any of the current sequencers through envelopes.

I am looking for a PC based solution that will have the following features:

integration with an "open" sequencer. Logic, Cubase, or Cake, Etc.
Support for "open" hardware interfaces (ADAT, TDIF, SPDIF, analog).
Physical access to faders, and transport at a minimum, ideally additional access as well.
Automation that works in/with the sequencer.

Now it would seem there are two ways to do this:
1. Get a dedicated control surface for the sequencer. The HUI is close to what I have in mind, but alas it is Mac only. The Houston may be good, but alas it is not available. The Cakewalk Studio mix is PC and available, but alas, it is too low-end.
2. Get a digital mixer, do your analog on the way in, and connect digitally to the PC. Control automation and transport via MMC. This really seems to be the way to go, but I haven't been able to find anyone who is using a working solution.

Is anyone using this type of solution, and if so, how? Remember, I already know about envelopes.
