I need help hooking up turntables to computer can any one tell me how to do this?

Most turntables have a low level output with "pre-emphasis". This will not work directly into a sound card. You will need to hook up the turntable to a phono input on a receiver/integrated amp and then find a line level output on the receiver to send to the sound card. A tape output works good for this. Most likely, depending on your sound card, you will need a cable with 2 rca plugs on 1 end and an 1/8" stereo mini plug on the other end.

Of course you could also use a phono preamp and do it the same way, but most people have a receiver around and not a phono preamp.

It should be said that the phono input on an integrated amp is just an input to a phono preamp. Just to make it clear that you can't just plug a turntable into any old input...well, you can, but you won't have much fun with it :)

If all else fails, head over to Radio Shack (arrgh) and pick up a two-track DJ mixer. They have phono inputs and line outputs.

Or you could rent a dj mixer from one of your electronics stores.

Or you could buy one from

Guitar Center

Musicians Friend

Pro Sound Stage and Lighting

A simple DJ mixer is only about $70.

Or you could pick up a used mixer......
