Hooking up my Digi001 with 3630 compressor

I'm new to protools and still have a lot to learn.
I know there are several ways hooking up outboard gear to my digi001. Right now I'm just trying to put my external compressor into a track that has been recorded.
Currently: analog 5 out > compressor in, compressor out > analog 5 in
then analog 5 is inserted in audio track 1
I'm able to record this to track 5 and hear the compression.

Would anyone recommend any other way to do this (which would be better...)?

Thanks

Does your current method cause the audio quality to suffer?

Or are you just thinking that it may not be 'correct'?

If it's the second one and you're not getting any degredation in your audio signal, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Just for your information, that 3630 is not a very good compressor. This is much better, and only costs $175.

It sounds pretty decent the way I have it hooked up. I like the 3630 better than the generic compressor plugin.
I also have two behringer mdx2000 (compressor/limiter/gate) that I got from my brother... i dont even bother touching those, they're pretty terrible.
Is there a way to set up my compressor so other channels can be compressed as well? This is where the bus comes in right?
