I've just inherited a Behringer Eurorack 2004 (without the manual) and would like to use it with a GadgetLabs Wave/4 sound card for HD recording.

There are so many unfamiliar knobs, buttons, ins and outs I'm not sure how to connect the mixer to the soundcard so I can listen to previously recorded HD tracks while recording new ones).

The mixer has what looks like 16 channels, 8 inserts and Alt3/4 as well as main mix outs. The Wave/4 has 2 stereo ins and 2 stereo outs.

I feel pretty dumb not knowing how to do this. Can anyone help? Thanks heaps.

Not familiar with the Behringer or the Wave/4, but here are some suggestions.

Use channels 1 - 8 for microphones, keyboards, bass inputs etc. Use channel 9 - 13 for playback from the wave/4 outputs.

You can use the inserts to send an output to the input of the wave/4. Or, you can use the Alt to also send signals out of the 3/4 output on the mixer to the wave/4. When putting down a track, you will listen back to outputs of the wave/4 via channels 9 - 13, while putting a new track down, plugged into channel 1, outputed via the insert, or alt 3/4 to any of the inputs of the wave/4.

Many ways to do this, just a few suggestions.

Jess,
I have the 2004 also and also trying to figure out the best ways of using it. What I have done is use the L/R main outs to the soundcards 1 and 2 inputs. For a stereo sound I pan hard left on channel one, and hard right on channel two on the mixer (if more inputs on the soundcard are needed do like emeric says and use the inserts on the back). Line in or mic inputs on the mixer for mic or instruments you are using to record. In the control room & main section area of the mixer, press both the main mix and alt3-4 buttons. Bring up the alt 3-4 fader and main mix faders. Use the ctrl room & phones dial for monitoring volume. Again, as emeric says, use two outputs of the soundcard for left and right monitoring and plug those into one of the stereo inputs on the mixer. I use the far right one (line in 15/16 left and right inputs) Then I press the mute button (which is also the alt 3/4 submix) and bring up the fader of that stereo input. This is the monitor mix. Here you can hear both the previously recorded tracks and the ones you will be recording. The inputs with the line in or mic that will be recording can't have the mute alt 3/4 button pressed or else it won't be routed to the soundcards inputs via the main outs on the mixer.
This way, I can increase the volume of the soundcards output monitor mix or decrease it, as I please, while recording something at the same time.
The control room outs on the top right of the mixer I send to the monitor amp.
Also, do not have the "2 TK" or "2 TK to mix" buttons pressed in the control room section or you'll get feedback I think.
If you go the behringer internet site, you can download or look at the manual for this mixer, as well.
I'm learning too, so if there are any other recommendations or errors in this setup, someone let me know, because sometimes I'm an idiot.

Thank you both for your great (and quick!) replies. I'll try out those suggestions and info.
