when i hook it to the channel insert i hear a strange feed back when i put the gain on the RNC up a funny feedback noise occurs y is that? i guess its the wires, i bought a Y adapter (2 mono to TRS) but it didn't have the designation for tip and ring..thats my only conclusion can when i put it on aux it works fine

my guess is that your Y-adapter is not stereo. That is, it can take a single stereo source and split it into two seperate mono sums (or stereo sums, depending on the cable you bought) of the same stereo signal - you're not getting an L and R (or send and receive) channel out of it, just a common centre on both ends. I have a Radioshack Y-adapter that I mistakenly bought that does exactly this, thinking it would do the same thing. it didn't say on the box how it was wired and was the only y-adapter with a TRS plug they had... pity it had to be such a useless piece of crap.

yeah, buying Y cord is pain in the ass. I always end up make it myself. Seems like if you want thing's done perfectly, do it yourself. :)

You know, you don't need a 'Y' cord to connect the RNC to a Mackie insert - a straight TRS to TRS cord will do it (the RNC was designed with just such a situation in mind).

well i bought the y cables wit designated tip and ring and now it works :D

now how do u hook it up to the 2bus of the mackie 1402?

Does the mackie have inserts on the main outs? If not you will probably have to go Mackie Outs- RNC- Mastering Recorder. Then monitor off of the recorder.
