Yea I have an xp-30 synth and sound forge 4.5
I want to start learning how midi and syncing up beats works.

I also have cakewalk 9 if that is easier

I just want to learn how to use the banks of sounds from my synth

What do I do to get started. I know what I want to do with it. I just don't know the first step

Thanks

Sound Forge is a stereo WAV editor; Cakewalk would be far more sensible for your stated needs...

Midi interface

You need a midi interface of some type between your pc (or mac) and your synth. This will allow cakewalk or other midi/audio sequencing software to communicate with your synth. Your midi connections send the information you play to your sequencer and records the information. Then you can play it back, add audio tracks and edit when necessary.

I now this may be overly simplified, but in a nut shell thats what you need to do. Check out midiman.com for a usb interface. I have one and it's quite simple to use.

Good luck.
