Hey Slackmeister:

Sounds like you have the support (and maybe even the source material) to eventually become a home-grown, Internet-based Label. Any interest?

I think it's an important idea. In the future, after all the big labels have gone belly-up (something I hope for everyday :) ), places like this are where the music will come from and man!, there's a lot of talent on this board.

Well that is an idea...

But the comp cd project is in no position to go "legit" at this point. Becoming a real business would require a lot more responsibility and funding.....and right now our primary goals are to donate money to keep the site running, and to make sure we can make more of these comps in the future.

Interesting idea though!!!

Just remember, when it takes off, it was my idea, and Id like a VP position......:D

Yeah! Oh, this is a GREAT marketing gimmick!

Just think, in 15 years when this new label is HUGE, everyone with think "oh, right: HOMErecording. Like the label 'HOME Cooked Taste!' on cheap soup."

:D

...and our share will be on Wall Street.

Hey, what was that steady diagram shown ?

Oh, that is Homerecording.Comp™ share prices. Always on the top of others. No wonder, they're HOMEr's...

:D

I'm highy disappointed that only 36% of respondents like pizza.

I have to say that I'd like to see it go somewhere. Realizing that thing about Uncle Sam wanting his share is kind of a downer, but once legit.....you realize that a lot of that worry was all about nothing. I also think that given the new ideas for vol.3, that could be incorporated into a standard submission policy........oh, Slack already HAS a day job.........bummer.

Starting a label would require the following:

1) Talent that would actually *sell* records, and not just a couple! Recouping the minimum $1000-1500 to make a product would be totally necessary.

2) Locating and gaining access to distribution channels.

3) Advertising.

4) Giving 40% to uncle sam. Paying the artist. Paying the producers. Artwork fees, packaging fees, replication fees.

It's a cool idea, but not really very practical at this point. If it makes anyone feel better I'll put "HomeRecording Records" on Volume II somewhere :)

The distribution thing is a real biggie. That's where most indie labels fail. They simply don't have the funds to do it. Takes major wads-o-cash.

Then Gidge is the man.... :)

3) Advertising.
Are you talking about Tucci ?
