The "real" suspension mounts are pretty expensive, I've seen them for up to $400. Here's what I came up with:

I used an old WFL snare stand (red arrow), the top cradle part, and removed the three arms. Then I attached it to an ABS toilet flange with some nuts and bolts. You can buy really small bungee cords and those suspend the mic. I made 4 swing down panty hose spit shields for it.

I'm not sure, but it could be that using a toilet ring adds a certain vibe to the sound of the mic too.

i could SWEAR i have seen this before somewhere

maybe im just crazy :confused::confused:

either way i think i might have to copy you :D ... sorta

Here's a shot from further back:

The whole thing is an arm that's mounted on an Ultimate Support keyboard stand. Friends have given me two of those stands and I've made lots of stuff from them, although I do plan on canning it all because I think the aluminum sounds bad.

There's a chain that hangs from a hook on the ceiling and by using different links in the chain you can adjust the height of the arm. I like that there's no stand on the floor and it's always there ready to go.

I also have a small goose (from an old spit screen) mounted on it that holds a KM84 mic. I record my friend playing flute and U87/KM84 stereo is what he likes.
