Home Studio vs. Acid Pro

ADD -- blessing and curse
Ok,
I'm considering buying one of these two programs. I'd like input on which one is better. I need something that will allow me to record and edit multiple tracks, and it MUST come with drum beats or drum loops.

Does one package have an advantage over another?

I can save about $60 if I buy Home Studio instead of Acid Pro 4.0.

Any thoughts?

You are in the Cakewalk Forum and HomeStudio is a Cakewalk-product... so my vote goes to:
HomeStudio

:D

I haven't seen Acid used in too many home recording situations... unless you are writing constant loop based material. What style of music are you planning on recording... if it is vocal/guitar you will probably be more suited to Home Studio... if you want to get into Techno.. I'd probably conisder Acid.

As moskus said... this is the Cakewalk forum... we will be pretty bias.. If this hasn't helped you, you might want to ask this question over in the Computer Recording and Soundcards forum. It will be a less bias answer as opposed to the Sonic Foundry or Cakewalk forums.

Just my suggestion,

Porter

And besides: The MIDI-capabilities of Acid is close to a joke. If you want to run DXi's and VSTi's, then go with HomeStudio.

Seriously, I can't see why you should use Acid instead of HomeStudio. ;)

mjr, they are not like-for-like programs. Sonar is for recording pro-am standard multi-track audio and midi, Acid is for producing loops, as previously pointed out by my learned collegues.

Yer pays yer money and takes yer pick;)

Good point! But if you want to record, I'd go with HS. I don't know about Acid 4, but Acid 3 was horrible to record with. And HS is quite capable of using Loops. And it has the lovely Cyclone DXi (if I only knew how to use it, but then again I don't use loops). :)

Cool!

Does Home Studio have drum loops incorporated into it?

I can do the guitars/vocals myself, but I don't have any drums.

But in my opinion you're better of programming your own beats using MIDI (or use the included Session Drummer, if you have to :D).

:)

Acid's okay, but its midi implementation is a real afterthought, and it shows. Mostly handles VSTis okay, but chokes on Steinberg's Model-E.

It comes bundled with Sound Forge XP and Vegas LT, I think. You'd do your audio recording in SF, loops in Acid, port both into Vegas for final mix, then "master" in XP. Sorta limited.

BUNCH of loops with Acid 4.0, but they're older, and sound a bit dated. Still, not bad.

I know nothing about Home Studio...

...but Cubase kicks Sonar's ass.

That's it, man. I'm calling you out.

VSTi's at 30 paces.

I suppose you can use your wanky little wrapper...:D

No problem! You're on! :D

I'll take Sonar with a wrapper over Cubase any day! ;)

And Me, Moskus, and me:D

Cubase is a lost cause compared to Sonar!Dxi rules:p

I'm with you Moskus...

dafduc, I can clear a room out, including myself with my own farts!!!!

Well,...I'm pretty sure it's a complete version...it's called FruityLoops Pro Express v.2.7.0

It seems full featured. No obvious limitations...I'm able to create, save, edit. No nags popping up to get me to sign up or buy anything.
