in the channel that u plug the micro, u have a switch that can select (tape,off,record) if i still remember, u need to switch to record so u can listen the mic, or do u try to sned the sound via direct channel output at one side of the tascam?.
 
Another suggestion: Buy a SM-57 mic. Doesn't require phanton power, nor is it expensive. Great mic for vocals.
 
i have recorded on the tascam long long time ago, but i hooked it up thru an old stero, if that dosent work i dont know what to do, im broke..spent 200$ on my mic..

Are you sure such a mic is needed considering the rest of your gear?
