hello

i know this gets asked alot but..

im just starting to buy equipment for my home studio ive browsed on loads of forums and websites (but not posted anything yet) and still cant find the answers im looking for i have a MACBOOK PRO with LOGIC PRO 9 and an interface with 2 inputs thats all ive needed up until now im wanting to record drums/multitrack i know what mic's i need but not the actual mixer/interface i need at least 6 mic inputs my budgets around £500 (thats just for the mixer/interface or both) can anyone help me

I love the TASCAM US-1800. It's around $400 US. I like that it's USB, the preamps are adequate, and it has been functionally flawless over the past 6 months on a PC. I assume the same is true with a Mac.

It's got 8 XLR inputs...10 total inputs.

The Tascam will work - you can also check out the Alesis Multimix 8 USB 2.0 I think it only has 4 preamps. The multimix 16 has 8. Zoom makes some inexpensive mixers but I haven't actually used those.

go with the focusrite saffire pro not sure on mac compatibility but i love pretty much anything focusrite have made..guess im a fan boy.

i think it has ADAT aswell if you wanna add extra pre amps later on and its only around the 400 pound mark.

I recently bought the Saffire Pro 40 which I think is great, in this price range there is not many firewire interfaces that have eight mic/line inputs and eight line outputs, ten including the mains. The preamps are pretty decent and transparent.

try the focusrite saffire pro. thats what im currently using. you can get phenomenal quality out of that. it has 8 mic inputs all with focusrite preamps.

I always thought those focus rights looked pretty damn good - Never heard one though. I hear good things about them and apparently the preamps are pretty decent.

I use the Alesis Multimix and it works fine for me but I don't have any illusions that it's a GREAT mixer - I mean the preamps work and I get good sound and recordings from it. But I also do not have a lot of experience comparing alternatives. I am pretty much a noob in many areas. But since I have a huge superiority complex I tend to insert my opinion on all subjects that I have the slightest bit of knowledge in. Lucky for me I read a lot so usually my opinions are based on research and not pulled directly out of my ass.

(*disclaimer: I am not saying anyone here is pulling things out of their ass) ;)

Not necesarilly 'better', but try full stops and general punctuation. Reading requires these.

What did I do now? Or forget to do?

lol - i think he was talking to OP
Yes, yes I was. Whatever people may say about Chris Harris, he's one of the most literate cats on board !

To the OP, I hope I've not put you off or appeared pernickety but where people won't put in simple aids to readers like full stops, I feel a timely reminder is not a bad thing. Heck, I can even live without commas and capitals !
