Hi all

I was hoping you could help me out.

I want to try to record some of my music (vocals and guitar), and then ad some drums, bass ect. on the computer

I've a good computer, but no software, and no mic.

I am looking for something simple and easy to use, and something that is not going to ruin me (maby something you can download for free?).

do you have any suggestions for some software and mic.?

You need three items...
  • Microphone. You can go nuts choosing a microphone. Suggest Shure SM57/58 when you can get it on sale with a bundled mic stand for under $100.
  • A/D/A converter. If the mic choices don't drive you batty, this one might. Suggest M-Audio Audiophile 2496 for $150.
  • Audio processing software. N-Track is free from the web.
Only $250 (more or less) to start your descent into insanity. Enjoy the ride.

search under my name. ive posted lots of tips to help folks like yourself.
for software try the free audacity(no midi though) or if you dont mind paying a bit i recommend what i use. powertracks from pgmusic.com.
excellent audio and midi features including midi notation , editing and printing.
nothing beats it for the small price. has kept me happy for years.
