Ootlaws- A GOBO is short for go-between. It's a movable acoustic baffling panel, basically a rock wool partition on wheels. A very useful item.-Richie

Oh....I got one of those I think.......its homemade though :) Basically a couple pannels of particle board from homedepot. I haven't quite got them setup on wheels though yet ;)

That'd make you a man with no headphones and no cables, no mic stands.

Oh yeah, you need a headphone too. I actually left out cables intentionally because I thought it was obvious. But I DID include a mic stand! So Pblblblblt! on you! :p

How about spending some money and going to school? I don't know how many people on this board have an education in recording, but it seems like a pretty obvious idea if this is what you want to do. There are a million options when it comes to getting a hands on education, check out this months issue of MIX, it is November so it's the annual Audio Education issue, it has listings of well over 50 schools from all over the US.

rookie, newbie, FNG

People,

thanks for the responses to my question. I was looking for suggestions on how to gain knowledge instead of starting a riot of how to best spend money. I do appreciate all of the information, however, I am investing about 4K into the equipment up front so that I don't wish I had of gotten better quality at a later date. (Momma wouldn't understand as easy the second time around) I hope this does not suspend me from gaining any additional suggestions in the future.

the crapola board , heh-heh, good one, is only 1k instead of spending 3k on a Mackie 24 channel mixer. My wife did specify a limit.

Again, thanks for your honesty.

Respectfully,

all dog band

Your "crapola" board is going to take a large "crap" on your music.

Get a VERY nice 12 channel board, then get another one later when you have the money.

All dog band,

If you just want to learn about recording, why not take a class at FCCJ? I see you're from Jacksonville beach, so FCCJ South Campus shouldn't be that far away. I took intro to audio recording from Steve Smith about 2 years ago, and learned a lot. It's a two semester class. You learn everything from how mics work to how to use Logic. Plus they have a kick butt studio.
That's probably easiest way to learn in this city.

If you are going to drop all that money on that gorgeous Mackie harddrive recorder........why do you want to go an ruin it with that behringer crapola.

Agreed. But, the Behringer is just fine. It is the Mackie HD that is useless. Jeez...........what a boat load of problems.

I'd have to disagree with that. The money is better off invested in gear than some bs recording school.

If anyone hasn't checked the prices on these things lately, you might be surprized.

I am not surprised, but many people are/will be. Mine is sitting at GC (after I returned two of them for the same reasons) in a rack and has survived three or four sales, is now down to $999 and still no takers. What a pile those things are. Not to offend anyone who is happy with one, if it works for you, cool.

"I'd have to disagree with that. The money is better off invested in gear than some bs recording school."

How many Grammies do you have Tex? How many times have you mixed on an SSL? How many engineers do you know that make over 100K a year? Just wondering...
