Hi guys. First time poster.

Recently I had some free time on my hands and I recorded a few tracks for fun. Here's the simple one:

It's a rock/metal project.
Take note it's rather rough as there are no solos or vocals in yet.

I was pleased with the sound... until I compared it to some pro recordings. The whole thing lacks punch and doesn't have those sexy lows most pro bands have. So here's my general question: What's wrong with it? Do you guys have any good advice for a recording like this? Is it salvageable?

The drums were done with Superior Drummer,
Guitars were recorded with a Line 6 Spider III 150 amp, trough the POD style out -> Line in to PC

It's not terrible, but there are a few problems. The cymbals are too weak. I'd increase them and I'd decrease the bass/guitars. The gtrs are too loud, they are taking up all the frequency space. I'd turn them down and cut the low end off of them. It sound like there is some mud in the low mids and I would guess it's coming from the guitars. Once the low end is cleaned up you can add more punch by increasing highs, turning up things or slapping on a compressor.

Not too bad.
The guitars are mushy. That snare's awefull.
The bass could do with a part of its own instead of playing the same thing as the guitar. It should have some room to breathe.
Its not so much mixing problems as arrangement for me.
The mix is so crowded that a vocal would drown in it.
I would use the mute button more.
In fact why not cut out the guitars in the verses nearly completely and allow the bass some room to shine and reintroduce the guitars in the chorus for that extra punch.
Maybe vary the playing style a little from chorus to chorus too.
bit meh but i've heard worse and i'm not a big fan of the genre so take it with a pinch of salt if you wish
