I just bought N-Track version 3.3 and whenever I record I get a "hollow" sound... I would like to get rid of it any ideas?

TIA,

Don

hollow sound

sounds like an eq problem, are you familiar with the eq setup? what kind of mic are you using, how is it placed......

Yeah you would need to define your term of "hollow".
The equipment you use will play a big part in the sound you achieve. Not to mention the room you record and listen back in. Also monitors (speakers) play a major roll in what you hear.

Listing detailed info on your setup and methods for recording and listening will help in determining what may help your sound.

how are you monitoring during recording? if you're monitoring through speakers and using a mic you can get a slight feedback that causes a wierd kind of hollow sound...

I guess I should have mentioned my setup. All I am trying to do at the moment is transfer the sound from a cassette tape to my PC and then from my PC to a CD.

I am using the "line out" from my cassette player to the "line in" of my PC soundcard (Sound Blaster) - and I am using n-tracks to make the recording. There is no microphone being used at all, but the recording sounds sort of "hollow".

Any ideas?

Did you turn off all of the EAX "gaming experience" settings in the SBLive control panel software??... they could be adding reverb to your sound.

Tim - I am just using the cheap Sound Blaster card not SBLive - in the software that comes with it I can't find any preferences/settings that would turn off any reverb?

I thought maybe there was a setting in N-Tracks that might be adding the "hollow" sound?

Hey I finally found where this hollow sound was coming from....

It is in the "volume control" setting .... if you click on "start", "programs", "accessories", and then "volume control" - then click on "advanced" under playback. You will see at the bottom... "other controls" and "spatial" with a check box... uncheck the check box and the "hollow" sound will then be eliminated.

Another way to get to the volume control is to just click on the volume control icon in N-Tracks.

Hope this helps anyone else that was experiencing the same problem that I was having!

Happy recording everyone!

D

That's the same thing. Your Blaster software is adding a bit of reverb for a "spatial" or stadium echo feeling.

Glad you found your problem.

Now upgrade to a real 24-bit soundcard and be amazed!!!
