Hey guys I have a quick question. I have a track with a deep bass drum from my Alesis D4. When I have the sound panned right down the middle it sounds like crap. When I pan it left or right it sounds deep, how I want it to but when it is in the middle it sounds hollow and shallow. What could be causing this, anyone have a diagnosis?

Thanks,
J

sounds like a Stereo/Mono problem, how do you have your monitors Connected to your output?

How'd you track the drums? Are you getting cancellation from another mic?

It DOES sound like a phase issue. Whether from having your speakers out of phase with each other or something else.

Thanks. I am new to all of this and wasn't sure where to start. I am going off to do a little research on these suggestions to see if I can solve the problem now that I have a few opinions. Thanks again!

Find which one of the tracks is out of phase and invert the phase of that wave digitally.

Check your cables. I'd give 2-1 odds it's a connection somewhere.

Do you have a stereo widener plugin downstream of the drums? If so stop it.
