Hohner Super 64 Chromatic Harp: warning!

I spent a wad on this thing....I'd been doing a lot of MIDI "Toots Theilmans"-type work, and wanted the real thing instead. Well, the German-made harp is tuned to European A444. So if you want to use it, y' gotta start your recording at 444.

A good player can use mouth 'English' to lower the pitch. And it is possible to re-tune the thing...one reed at a time...expertise needed.

But if you're new at it, no way.

Just a searchable warning to anybody thinkin' bout getting one to record with.

Thanks for the advise! I am thinking of buying a chromo harp, soon.

I'd think those fixes would both be a PITA. I would never try to re-tune a harmonica- reeds are too small, so it's be easy to make a mistake- and then you are DONE. And bending EVERY note? Man, I am NOT that tough!

I left the unfinished vox in [girl part is missing] with the instrumantal heads and solos ...easier to hear me struggle to pitch the harp down. So the tune is a little confused.

I talked to a harp specialist. He says there are chromos pitched to 440 made domestically. Ya just gotta start the recordings in 444, and yer all set with the Euro's.

I had this tune finished yesterday. My sis did a great job with the girl's vox. I didn't save changes before I started editing. The power hiccuped from the pole....need I say more? I shoulda known better. Gonna put a little Post-it on the monitor.......SAVE!!!

Thanks, Ray!

I'm just foisting out the riot in my head...one tune at a time.
Next is a string quartet...sorta as classically Bach as I can imagine. I love that stuff. Then...idunno...a hiphop beat. Word.

Very "alt country" and cool. At first I'm thinking the vocal is too thin, but when the female vocal kicks in it all works. Great duet. I would look for a way to introduce the mindset of the duet to the listener sooner.

And this reminds me... what happened to sharencrow?

Intro duet:

Maybe; but I almost always regret re-thinking stuff like that. The song is as it first played in my head. I trust the inner composer more than myself. I gum things up when I try to improve certain things. The flip-side of the unexpected duet is...surprise?

What is 'alt' country? I thought that was more like a crossbreed between rock and country....like Rascal Flatts? This is more like straight ahead old-timey bluegrass......unless you're talking about the bridge. That's somethin' else! And I guess that'd make it 'alt'....

I thought my vocal was rounder in the mids than I thought would sound OK. But it passed the car test.

Tx for makin' me think about it, though. You may have something. I'll have time to mess with it before committing.
