This is the shit. :) This is a really nice tune man. My flatmate who is also a fan of proper english prog rock loved it as well. We'd both love a link to your other stuff. Nice work, you got serious talent.

I love English Prog & Prog Psych, Canterbury type, Gentle Giant (what style were they?) etc but, strangely enough, can't get into Yes in any way shape of form. I'm learning to like Genesis but started with lamb & have worked backward - Lamb was daunting and I've struggled but am learning to understand Foxtrot, Nursery Crimes etc.
Fatfleets stuff is more my meat as it's has weight and digs its toes into the ground whilst reaching for butterflies with a Bug Catcher!
 
I thought the drums sounded real good. I thought some of the toms were panned a little bit wide. But the detail on the drums is really good.

The bass sounds real rumbly and boomy. It's pretty loud.

This is as far as I got - the song stopped playing for me, and I couldn't get it going again. I'll try to stop by later.

Hey MMM. I think I chose the exact moment you were listening to factory-restore my laptop and weirdly, when my C drive reset, the song somehow got deleted from my Dropbox folder (but only that one file, the rest were untouched :confused:). Very strange as I thought all that shit was in the cloud. Thanks anyways for giving it a shot and for the partial feedback! :)

Yeah, I always think of myself more a psych fan than a prog fan, but I do like a lot of that Cantebury-scene stuff, like Gong and Soft Machine...but there is a fine line for me. Gentle Giant is a band I'm always running into but don't know much about. I keep meaning to check em out, but haven't prioritized them yet. When I first became aware of Genesis as a kid, they kinda sucked....they had videos on MTV like 'Illegal Alien' etc. and Phil Collins was full-steam in his No Jacket Required phase...so I was never able to shake that first impression. People are always telling me to check out Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot but my subconscious resists. I picked up The Lamb Lies Down [..] vinyl at a yard sale like 15 years ago but still haven't listened to more than a few minutes of it. Someday.... :)

If you want to taste Gentle Giant get Interview. To my ears their best.
They're all over torrent land but I have a few of their LPs.
Post Gabriel Genesis is another proposition entirely, and not one I care for.
The Softs 1st couple were AMAZING though I have an LP of a post Wyatt &4?) that is beautifully played but too jazz to engage my rockbrain.
It's tough to beat King Crimson though!

Yeah I've got that 4th Soft Machine and it is pretty jazzy. Not at the top of my list but I do spin it every few years. It was actually my introduction to them....not the best I know, but it was a cheap used record store score back in the day. The first two are way better, but I think Wyatt went on to better things post-accident. Really fond of the Cowconcerts album he did with Slapphappy/Henry Cow, though I often find the Cow's proper albums to be kinda grating.

I was obsessed with KC when I was a kid and still love all their stuff...particularly the Larks' Tongues-Red stretch. I'll check out that Gentle Giant, thanks for the recommendation! :)

Soft Machine Third is worth the price of admission. One of the tracks is sorta 'meh', but the other three astound.
 
Red was my intro to KC.
I'll suss out Third.
Always on the lookout for good prog & psych - I have an astounding amount from the old Cpt Crawl blog days.
 
Yeah Third is pretty monumental. Took an "embryonic journey" to that one a while back.. :)

I bought The Lamb Lies Down... on ebay a couple of years ago. Turned out the lady selling it worked about a mile from my house, so I met her and she gave it me with a couple of other Genesis LPs and didn't even want any cash for any of them. Incredibly nice of her, and I really like most of LLDOB, but the two post Peter Gabriel albums don't do very much for me

Yeah, not in the arrangement, but the melody line has something of the ISB to it to my ears.

I'll have a listen tonight and see how the changes to the bass sit :)

I'm still planning on checking out all those early Peter Gabriel era albums...Just haven't gotten around to it yet. Should probably start with LLDOB since I have it already. I'll make a point of digging it out!

Cool, thanks ray. Took a quick look this morning and I've gotta say their website is kinda tough to navigate.. actually had a tough time finding song samples. What I did hear sounded a little Sigur Ros-y, not necessarily a bad thing.

I doubt anyone is still listening critically to this but I did make a couple more adjustments....bass down more and vocals back up a little. Think I might be getting close, thanks everyone for your help!!
 
I'm on a laptop so can't listen but will do so after I get home this evening. Hope the bass isn't too far down.

Back in a decent listening position...the bass struggles a little during the intro - I'ts cool and holds the rhythm etc but it doesn't have the majesty that it holds after the intro - possibly just a matter of the intro being busy.
It's a cool remix - the vocal levels are ace for my tastes.
This song really is cool psych.

These guys are awesome! Agree the site is not easy to navigate, but kind of cool all the same. Music is well worth it once you can hunt the right wisp down to click on it. I can't find anywhere to buy their album though, they don't seem to have a shop on their site and Amazon, well I don't like buying from them anymore because they're dirty tax evaders and treat their workers like slaves. I don't do itunes. Any suggestions?

Cool, thanks Ray. At this point I have to go a few days between listens to be more objective about levels and stuff, but I'll look into the bass thing at the beginning. The last time I listened, I liked the vocal levels but thought maybe some hard consonants were getting lost... a lot of that could be my voice though. Didn't know about My Psych Tunes. Do I have to be on FB to check it out (I'm not)?

Ok, and I found the audio on the Will-o-the Wisp website and don't think they sound like Sigur Ros anymore, at all. Really nice stuff, but yeah. Hard to find that first one. Looks like they record under the name Manticore's Breath now?

For Will-o-the Wisp or for ordering music in general? Aquarius Records and Forced Exposure are both good for vinyl/CDs. Don't know about digital downloads, except for the usual suspects...
