Emory Cook, and some links

Okay today a bit more about Emory Cook.

I heard first about him last Saturdaynight on a radio programme by BBC4, it was just a brief highlight of the man's life and his ideas. He was mainly a recording enthousiast instead of a scienceperson. He loved what he recorded and his vision was "To let the listener experience the recording as if he/she was present at the scene of recording.

He made quite a few recordings of the Carnival in Rio and performances of streetbands. I did hear some of these recordings and they were absolutely marvelous: You could hear people talking all through the music, shouting, breaking of glass bottles ect. just like at a real live-event. Nothing sterile here.

Emory was also a great experimenter of ususual ideas: One moment he had locked up some cats and dogs up in one room, he kept them there for a few days without feeding them. After a few days he did feed them, but not before putting some mikes in the same room. Needless to say what beauties he recorded there!

Does anyone know more about the man here? In the meantime I will give you some links, but so far I am a bit disappointed in what I have found. Would like a website about his life and recordings instead of the little snippets I have found here.

Anyway.....................try some of these in the meantime:

Oh this looks like fun and great to read: www.positive-feedback.com/Issue14

As you will have noticed from the article our man was into his "Loud Music" :D He was Jimmy way ahead here with this big amprig, and what about all those EL34's eh?

This one here is far more serious: www.casa-chia.org/Sam/part2.html

This one is about Calypso Artist "Mighty Sparrow" this song was recorded by Emory. It has some great lyrics ...........
