Hissing and popping when multitrack recording

I believe the AWE62 will only play back 8 bit if you are in full duplex (although always can record at 16 bit, or play back 16 bit if not in full duplex). Or one of the "AWE"'s anyway. If you are listening while recording, it might sound nasty.
Also, there is on that cannot do 16 bit full duplex if the midi is used at the same time, without the latest update.

Thanks Goodrat. That's it. I disabled simultaneous record/playback on Cakewalk and it works fine--that's what requires full-duplex operation. Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated!
