This one was just finnished tonight. This is a friend of mine named 1-2-3, he is a solo act and did every track you are about to hear other than the girl singing background (duh!), This song is called "Tangerine" and is a long one, but if you are into funk, hip hop, and reggae all done acoustically then you shouldn't mind. This was written by 1-2-3 produced by 1-2-3 and I and recorded and mixed by me. This is not final and so I would like comments about what you think I could improve on in my mix before we seal the deal. Thanks I appreciate your help.

Disclaimer: Listening on headphones.

The intro kinda started to turn me off because it was kinda too much going on too soon, but then it cleared up a bit. Sounds pretty good. The hip hop drums popping up here and there I don't really dig, but that's just preference. They almost fit into the production for me, but not quite. Maybe if there were more percussion throughout it wouldn't seem as out of place.
The song itself is pretty linear, so I started to lose interest around the 4 minute mark and saw there was still a while to go with no sign of change.

Overall I dug it, but longed for more variety.

You encoded this MP3 reeeally low... :p you might wanna try using VBR. (64K is just too low for decent quality)

Overall it sounded pretty decent (the part I listened to) but I'd really like to hear this at a decent bit rate to get a better idea of the real recording quality.

Usually your recordings are pretty decent, so I'd like to give this one a "real" listen if you get a better MP3 up.

WATYF

I agree about the variety, again this isn't my song and I would prefer it it with a couple minutes cut out. Most of the guitar riff throughout the song is the same.
WATYF this was actually encoded at 128 and then I did some more work to it, and accidently encoded it at 64 not realizing, I am changing it as we speak. Thanks.

Ok it's back up this time at 160. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Ya sorry.... I posted that at 4 am when I couldn't sleep. Your did your job very well. The stuff I mentioned is mostly in the arrangement department. Nice recording though. :)

Thanks for the words. I am mainly concerned with the recording and production, rather than songwriting and arrangement. Thanks

Recording sounds pretty damn good to me. If there was more hip hop that sounded like this, I'd probably listen to it more.

Song's a tad long....but that's not your worry. Just adding reinforcement for that in case your freind needed a bit of convincing.

Nice job man!!

Thanks Jagular. I compare this kind of "hip hop" to more of a G-love and the special sauce style of music.
