Hip hop in Mixing Clinic??

People of homerecording.com, we deserve respect as electronic musicians rather than simply button pushers enhancing a performance. I refuse to contribute to the mp3 mixing clinic, because our beats will be passed over and unnoticed. We deserve respect as artists and contributors of innovation. We twist the knobs that many engineers wish to. While they may have a favorite reverb, we flip that reverb and turn it into a song (see Neptunes/Busta Rhymes: Light Your Ass on Fire ). Dismiss us if you wish, but watch your business drop. We are many. If you have an opinion on the subject say something. If you don't agree with me say that too. Say something, don't just fold.

I want to put my two cents in here. I listen to the beats made on these boards and although i haven't had the opportunity to frequent the mp3 mixing clinic, the beats made in the hip hop/beats lounge are made by aspiring electronic musicians. We attempt to create art with our electronics. Many of us don't use the same techniques that conventional recording artists use. Overall, electronica should be considered separate from mainstream recording. I want to help homerecording.com, and I think by dividing the two (beats and hiphop/electronica producing topics), you're going to have less traffic to the hip hop portion of your site. Keep innovation alive and understand the necessity of marrying the two. I am a contributor to this and other boards on the net, and from a business perspective I believe you are doing your customers a disservice, by clumping the electro artists in with the ballad singers. If the back end of your server is an issue, perhaps its time for a systems upgrade. We as artists support your site, and we want respect as electronic musicians, instead of simply recording engineers, or singers with a cd.

I have some ideas for the site if you're interested.

YOU have to comment first. And don't just comment on the other hip-pop track on the page.

Open your mind to some good music (and get over yourself).

Oh give me a break. Nobody in the clinic gives a rat's ass what kind of music you post, it's all in the way you post it. If your music is getting skipped over, here's why:

#1 - Most of the people posting hip-hop/etc in the clinic that I have seen have a very small number of posts to their name, and none of them involve commenting on other clinic songs. In the clinic, you must give to receive. In addition, it is common courtesy to thank the people that take the time to listen and critique your music. Often, people post their songs, and never return.

#2 - People posting hip-hop in the clinic often have 3-10 songs on their pages, and rarely specify which one they want you to listen to. The clinic is for getting feedback on one song at a time. Most of the time, people will overlook this one and just comment on whatever song happens to be first on the list. If this isn't what you want feedback on, you better specify.

#3 - People posting hip-hop in the clinic often will not even ask for feedback. Nothing is more annoying than someone who just tells you how great their shit is, then whines when nobody listens. The clinic is for getting feedback on your mixes/beats, not just showing off your latest creation. Ask for comments, and ye shall receive.

So, in conclusion, go in there with an open mind, listen to other people's music, comment on it, post one song at a time, and ask for feedback. Also, remember #1? The hip-hop people aren't even commenting on each other's stuff. If you don't want to expand your horizons, that's fine, but at least comment on the other hip-hop stuff in the clinic.

who said i posted in the mp3 clinic in the first place? I often respond to peoples beats i hear, however i don't put my beats up for review. I could give a fuck what people think. I'm only looking out for advice on setting things up. I like hearing people's beats, but i don't want to go the mixing clinic to do it.

And regarding Busta rhymes and that Neptune's Song. Call it what you want, but let it be known, these cats are making money and they have an audience. Obviously someone is buying their product. If you're so caught up on busta rhymes, you obviously didn't understand what the hell i was talking about anyway. I WAS talking about the fact that there is a difference between a producer and an engineer. And today, many producers play both roles. You can question the validity of the title "producer", but give me a fuckin break music is aesthetics. You're a producer when you arrange pieces of music. I'm not a huge Busta fan, but i've got a couple of his albums and I check for whatever he's doin, just like a lot of other hiphop cats. If yall wanna blend with the mixing clinic, do your thing. I enjoy this board, but not folks who shit before they think. peace to those who love all hiphop for its soul. Peace to those who believe people can improve and don't dismiss budding talent as bullshit. Faith is something music needs.
 
I don't believe at all that you don't care what people think. Why else are you making music, and bitching that there isn't enough hip hop? If you make music and you don't care what people think what's the point? That's my 2 cents.
