I have a DELL Inspiron 600m, equipped with n-track studio. I would like to run a mixer directly into my computer, what do I need? Can I plug a mixer directly into a soundcard and record multiple tracks simultaneously?

You can, but don't expect any kind of quality and don't expect to be able to record multiple tracks at once.

You would need to add one of these to your system to get good quality recordings, and since this PCI card has only left and right inputs you still won't be able to record multiple tracks - like a guitar and vocal - unless n-track lets you split the inputs to separate tracks. You can do as many overdubs as you want though, and that may well be what you mean by 'multiple tracks'.

If you want to record multiple tracks simultaneously you'll need a multi input soundcard.

I use the MAudio 1010LT and that gives me 8 analog ins/outs (plus spdif and midi), it's a solid budget choice. There are other options out there.
