high-speed recording (tascam Porta 07)

How can I activate high-speed recording on my Tascam Porta 07? I thought with dbx turned on, high speed would also be turned on, but the speed isn't changing. Help please!

The Tascam "Porta" decks don't have a high speed per se. There is usually a "Pitch" adjustment that will speed up or slow down the motor. The DBX stuff has nothing to do wit the speed.

My old 424 had the high speed switch. I always recorded on high speed to get a little better quality recording. You use up more tape but it is worth it.

does that mean there is also a signal improvement when I record with the pitch control all the way up?

Possibly but I don't think the advantages would be noticeable and maxing that out will leave you without control of the tape speed if you ever experience tape drag during mix down.
