Couple of questions

Couple of questions-
Tin the tip means what?
And second, what are the wire connections? R/T/S/ or XLR hot, ground ect...

Tinning means to apply solder to the wire ends after you've twisted them together. It just holds them together and in my experience makes them easier to handle when soldering them to the connector itself.
 
I'm going to do my standard recommendation of the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook, by Davis and Jones. One of the "must have" studio/live sound books in my opinion. It has detailed descriptions of how to make cables, with photos. It also has detailed diagrams of the various ways to wire cables. For example, unbalanced to balanced, TRS to XLR, etc.
 
  • 1.How much money do you save making your own cables?
  • 2.How do you pronounce solder?
  • 3.Balanced outputs w/ a TRS cable into a Balanced in...right?
  • 4.Would a TRS w/ unbalanced outputs into unbalanced inputs work good, or do i need an unbalanced cable(BTW whats the correct term for them)?
  • 5.If I have the choice of using unbalanced or balanced, which should I use?
 
1. i think i saved a ton of money by making my own cables. like i said in a previous post, for the price of like 4 pre-made mogami mic cables, i was able to buy 300ft of cable, a pound of solder (pronounced SAW-dur), and like 20 or so neutrik connectors. so there's alot of money to be saved.
2. SAW-dur is how i've always said it
