I have both Neutrik xlr's (Nc3fx, Nc3mx) and Knock offs that i will personally vouch for if you wish to save a few bucks per cable.

Any way you could make a 4-pin (male) xlr to 3-pin (male) xlr adapter? It would only need to be around a foot long. Thanks - Jason
 
Undoing the braid by rolling it between your fingers or combing it out with a wire brush will give you a much better result than just scrunching it back like that. It's a pain to solder that way, and it's easy to leave danglers that can short out a cable, or not be connected, cutting down on your shield coverage.

Jason - I'll have to check with my supplier on the 4 pin, what is the 4 pin for?
 
They use them a lot in lighting and radio. Sometimes they use all four pins, sometimes not, like 5-pin midi cables which really only use 3 conductors. A couple years ago I made two XLR-MIDI adaptors for a guy for a project. He can just plug a mic cable between them. Lots cheaper than a 50-ft MIDI cable, as he already had 50-ft mic cables.
I know you can get up to at least 7 pins. I had to wire a few of those for my cousin to use in his airplane headset.
 
My MXL V69M uses a 7-pin XLR between the mic and its power supply.
 
The adapter is for a vintage shure, model 545. It sounds great but needs the adapter... I bought it from a friend who has two of the mics, but only one adapter. Neutrik makes a NC4M connector with 4 pins, I just don't really want to make it myself if I don't have to - as I'd rather have someone else do it who knows how. Thanks - Jason
