Unkle Ticklefingers
A tune I've been working on for a bit now.....
Hidden

Bulls Hit laid down the drums, lbanks did the bass, and some sweet leads, and Gorty did some more sweet leads to mingle with Larry's. Sort of a rocker, sort of a roller.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help in keeping this thing going..... :D

This is turning out really sweet! Its reminding me of Cathedral, only with decent vocals. :)

How many tracks were recorded for drums? The reason I'm asking is that the hats and cymbals work great for this tune, but I think the kick and snare need to create more of an impact by coming out more. If it's just a two track stereo mix of drums, you may want to experiment with the eq.

Also, the vocals are too buried in the beginning, you may want to consider riding the faders to pull back the lows of the guitars during this part, and when the drums kick in more, bring back the lows of the guitars, because once the whole band kicks into gear, his vocals are much better defined.

I hope I don't miss the final mix of this, because I'd really like a copy to throw on my mp3 player. Or better yet, if you plan on finishing this track before August, cut me a cd of this will ya? You'll find a few people (like me), who will be trading free copies of music to each other at jamfest.

Listened a couple of times - there's a lot to enjoy in this. I think the mixing was done really well on this one. The instruments and the vocals are well balanced. I notice it especially when the lead breaks come in - they have lots of clarity but they don't overtake the mix. Good job by all......

I really like the "big" roomy drums but I think in this instance they get a little lost once everything comes in. If you have seperate tracks you might try automating the "wetness" a little once all the instruments are in the mix.
There were some cool sounding leads in there too. Sounded like there was an octave effect or harmonizer being used, cool stuff.
You have a very distinctive sound with your voice. Cool stuff as always.

Very cool man. Alot of improvement from the last time i heard this. The leads sound great through out, I like the kinda chorus effect on them. I think the bass drum is a bit buried, but I don't think it's too drastic. Overall I think this is my fave song from you that i've heard. Everyone did an excellent job, and I think the vocals sound great. I personally think i can hear a huge difference in confidence delivering the vocals from the first song i've heard. Just my 2 cents man, loved it.

Take care

Hey,thanks Cy.
Drums are a stereo track, but sound really awesome by themselves. I might have taken a bit too much low-end out, to give the bass some room. I'll see if i can fix that up. Shouldn't be too hard, but you never know....

I'll see about getting a bit better space for the intro vox, and getting them to sit better, and have some volume. I'm always trying to hide my voice, and did it here.... :o

I'm hoping to finish it soon, and when it is done, I will gladly get you a copy. Thanks man. You plan on having a bunch more tunes done by
August? I'd love a cd man.... :D

Thanks again.

Thanks ido. It was fun playing with these guys....really transfored the simple riff pretty quickly. :D
The leads were actually pretty fun to mess with...both guys played to most of teh tune, and I did some splicing to make them sound like they played off each other....seems to have worked out well....I enjoy the leads quite a bit.

Thanks man....

Hey, thanks man. I'll wok on getting the drums to sit better.....that's been my biggest challeng with this. They sound awesome by themselves, and can take up a lot of space. So far my attempts at eq have had them way too thin. I think with a bit more experimentation, I can fix that up though.

Thanks for the props man...appreciate the listen and advice.

Gary, thanks man. I tried to retain a little bit of industrial feel, but having the other parts really brought the tune up to snuff, so it simply eveolved to this. :D
Yeah, I need to work on the drums a bit. The kick is huge, and I think I snuffed it a bit here. I might see if Bulls Hit will do a mix of this, as he seems to be better with the drums. That's something I really need to work at, but don't always have the oportunity to work with real drums.

Thanks again man. Appreciate it.

Don't know. Turnaround on these tunes is around six weeks, and I've got two out now. Looks like it will be a total of three or four on this "sampler" release. Even though you'll hear them through here, the listening room, and myspace, you'll definately get a cd of whatever I've finished.

Liked everything except.....I had a hard time hearing the vocals....might just be me.....good stuff though!!!!!

Thanks man...vox need a bit of work in spots....the intro was sort of hidden, so I'll see about bringing it up, without it getting all muddy.

Thanks for the listen man...

Cool man....I'm really excited about seeing, and hearing you guys play live in a few months....been a while since I saw any live music...

Sounds great. It was very interesting to follow this from the very beginning when it was just a riff, to the final song. Great job by all, one of your best.

Thanks man....very fun working on this once it started taking shape....I really had no idea when I started, but turned out pretty cool.

Thanks man....

I really like it after the drums come in post intro.
They have a good sound to 'em.
The solo at 2.39 is a little buried especially given the guitar sounds at 2.55.

I agree with Cy about the mix in general. If you are worried about the too much low's in the drums, try boosing the EQ of drum track around 5k and play with the Q to find the right amout without messing up the rest of the kit's sound. That should get more definition to cut through the mix.

Cool Tune!

Good mix. Everything's placed so it sounds like a well rehearsed band playing. Good use of verb to glue it all together. I like the psychadelic mood of the lead guitars and the vocal quality. My only suggestion would be re the vocal phrasing - more of a writing thing than an arranging thing I guess. (The tune's so far along I doubt it's practical to change the vocal writing but I'll mention it anyway. :D ) The vocal's oriented around a repeating rhythm similar to the opening guitar riff. If the endings of the vocal phrases were extended or shortened periodically it would add a good type of rhythmic variety to the line while leaving the vocal's cohesive feel in the arrangement intact.
