hate to keep posting this but maybe one of you to guys may know this,

I got a panasonic stereo from the 80's that has mic and headphone input jacks.

I recorded guitar on it by plugging my guitar into the amp and then plugging my amp in the mic jack of the cassette player.

It didn't sound too well at all.

I am guessing I don't need to use an amp if I am recording into a cassette player?

Hey welcome to the site.

Without having seen what your recording into, or with, I'm venturing to say you won't get any good results from an 80's panasonic cassette recorder.

Before going any further, browse through the Newbies section here at HR and read up on all the posts about people just starting out. Lots of references and info to digest. The first step is to read, read, read (okay, that was 3 steps!) and learn. Then you can start doing. Um, but probably not with that old cassette; not if you want any kind of quality audio.
