hey, how do you guys record a violin?
a friend just bought a new one i i'd like to record some of that

most of all i'd like to know what kind of mic and sutff

Ive seen some people playing violin live and use a small clip mic...hope im right

Sometimes (Such as in country music fiddle) they actually put the mic behind the player in a somewhat over the shoulder/over head fashion. (I have no idea why this is done, but I THINK I read it in an interview about Mutt Lange going to Nashville.)

id say get an old beefy tube mic and let it warm up really good.


stand about 5 feet away and go to town.

Unfortunately, like all not-drum machine or synthesized instruments, the quality of your tracking space will have a huge effect on the sound of the violin. Try a church or school auditorium
