Hi there I have just been given a Yamaha aw 16G

Yamaha didn't make the manual difficult to fine. It's still listed on their website after 20+ years.

Having something for a year and a half and then expecting someone to drive 3 hours to hold your had for 2 or 3 hours is a bit much. Gas alone would cost you $60 these days! When I got my AW, I think it took me about a half hour to get something recorded, and I hadn't been doing any recording for a good 10 or 15 years. It had a full printed manual and they even put a video disc in the documentation to demonstrate the operation. That's way more than you get these days..... "Please go to https://here's the manual - read the damn thing.com" for documentation.

In defense of Keith, he did say that he was willing to drive up to 3 hours and pay for someone’s time to help him out.

I did miss the comment that HE would drive. My apologies.

He said he's in Darlington... UK or SC, IN, PA, WI? I'm assuming he's in the UK, so you're talking about Leeds, York, Scarborough or Newcastle area. I don't know how popular the AW16G was in the UK, so that sort of narrows the pool a bit.

Just to be clear...I was not having a pop at Tascam. I have always found them first class in the provision of manuals and their content but not all manufacturers are the same! Some want to dazzle you with how much they have spent on their website and/or bury manual information under levels of menus. Worse still are the sites that insist you setup an account! F the ***T OFF!

Of course, producing well written manuals takes skill, time and money and I do not expect a 100 page A4 tome with the product no, a "quick start" sheet is fine so long as I can download a more detailed .PDF.

Dave.

The AW16G manual is very good. If I remember right, it takes you through examples of making a recording.
Spending 3 hours with the manual is easier and cheaper than driving.
I am probably 6 hours + away from Darlington UK. Other end of the country.

The AW16G generously allows you to control other kit over MIDI from the transport controls and a few other buttons.
