Hi ,

I am currently trying to record on a very old laptop with a realtek soundcard .I am using a yamaha audiogram 3 usb audio interface . the program im using at themoment is audacity although i hope to have cubase ai6 up and running soon . I am also using lmms a free program to make beats .

I have loads of questions and here are just a few if you can give some advice.

1 . there is a terrible white noise like sound if i try to turn up high the volume of the instrument on the instrument or on the audiograms input .Is this a sound card issue ?

2 is there any way to hook up a simple keyboard to a laptop and then use a program to put an effect on the input in real time ?Would a program like lmms be suitable for this ?

3. What should i look for if i buy a desktop or laptop that is geared towards recording music ?Is a desktop a better option ?Is the soundcard important ?

4 . does it matter how expensive or cheap a keyboard(instrument) is if you intend to run the input through a lot of effects anyway?should i look for a midi or usb connection if buying a keyboard ?
