Well...

I decided to use my time between jobs "wisely", er... at least more wisely than sitting in a bar all day and night like some seem to do, LMAO... it was blissful to throw myself into music for months straight, like it was an enjoyable job...

*sigh*

anyhoo, I knew eventually I had to get another job. Got one, lost it, got another... and finally landed a job thats more my speed, and I finally feel "comfortable" there, as in, I dont fear "the axe" every day I am there...

It took away from studying music, and perhaps a break was just what I needed anyways, (went shooting trap and stuff instead...). After 5 weeks or thereabouts, I naturally got "the itch". Now, way back when, the whole ORIGINAL point of studying classical exercises was because I figured I HAD to, to learn how to write guitar stuff. Ended up liking classical, but... "the guitar" is always in the back of my mind... so, periodically, I will come back to a guitar song, and see if I have learned anything that applies to it.

so, I give you, for your reviews...

PS - while I realize the guitar sound isnt "there" by any means, I am focusing on WRITING guitar stuff here, and am particularly interested in if the lead/solo is "credible" or not...

(lead always escaped me in the past... but, you keep plugging away, eh?)

Now, where is Gecko to give me just a STRING (pun intended, LMAO) of stuff wrong with this? Eh?

First, congrats on your new job and finding contentment there. My grandfather once told me that if you find a job you like, you'll never have to work a day again.

Second, the song is very good. I enjoyed the pace and variation the whole way through. I found myself wondering what genre it belongs in, which is actually a good thing (e.g., it's unique). I'm thinking it's closest to techno-electronica.

Cheers,
Joseph

Welcome back! I'm pleased you kept yourself nice instead of becoming wasted in a bar.

You asked about credible guitar leads, but before I get into that, I enjoyed this song as it is, irrespective of any considerations of guitars. I liked that particular soind for what it is, specially the lower pitched parts. I also liked the 'ins and outs' of assorted motifs, and the general energy of the piece. If you were looking to write something for your hunting soundtrack, this strikes me as being very suitable. I like Jospeh's description: techno-electronica.

I note your focus on writing 'guitar stuff here', and not necessarily replicating an actual guitar. Is it credible? Well, yes and no. Yes . . . in the sense that a guitar player could learn those licks and riffs and play them as written. No . . . in the sense that guitar playing involves considerably more than a sequence of notes, and that technique is a huge part of a guitarst's sound (for example, bending notes, hammering on, playing harmonics etc.).

I'm not sure that I have answered your question. But it was a cool piece of music.

Hmmm....

okay, thats all fair (from both of you) and I can "dig it". As long as I'm making steady progress....

geck... actually, I found myself while writing it WISHING I could do a bend or a slide in certain places, LMAO, and feel like when I finally get the right software to do as such, perhaps it wont be like giving a little kid a power tool, LMAO

PS - the thing that amazed me MOST of all, was that I was able to write the rhythm and the lead parts without any "planning" and rather did them both on the fly, and off the cuff, with a lot more "by sound" choices rather than "by textbook" choices. *shrugs*

plus, this was 3 hours of rough draft noodling... MAYbe, I can come back later on, and massage it, and improve it some without ruining it.

*shrugs*

I started out wanting a "metal, driving" sound, kinda heavy... but I HAVE learned that when I start getting "somethign else", I just GO WITH it instead of fighting it, its easier. *shrugs*

LMAO, normally, I wanna write classical, I get rock... I try to make heavy metal, I get classical (shrugs)... at least this time, I set out to do "heavy metal" and only landed on "get up and go bar guitar", LMAO

I wanted to be in left field, and landed in centerfield instead of 1st base like normal, LMAO, which is progress of some kind. Cool. I can dig it. Thanks guys. I'll try to come back to this, or somethign similar later.

PS - icy...i just reviewed your last pop piece? you took things UP a notch, dude. good show.
