hey pretty new to these forums anyways this weekend my band is having a little home recording session and we only have 2 dynamics and a condenser(behringer c3) to record drums but the other instruments are fine if anyone could help with some ideas on the best way to use these mics(as in placement and which ones for where) to get the best results that would be very appreciated

Kick/snare/overhead is the way to go. try aiming the kick mic at the beater first (more click attack) and if you don't like that sound point it a little off the beater. Take time with your overhead. This is not just for cymbol sounds. You want to use the overhead to get a good overall drum kit sound and then use the other mics to fill in. Try it in a lot of different places but start (because it is mono) right over the center of the kit and back a bit towards just over the drummers head. Good luck. Let us know how it went.

so it went really well we ended up getting the drums to sound nice and clear by micin the snare and kick and then the rest was picked up with the overhead, in the end made quite a nice drum track.
