I was looking at the Davisound stuff, and I know you have been pushing it pretty hard. The TB6 is only in the $600 range for 4 pre's. That makes me skeptical, somewhat... you understand... anyway, you find these are actually very transparent or somewhat colored? What pre's have you compared them to and liked them over? I've pretty much decided on an API 3124 4 channel rackmount, and I'll be looking for about 6 more channels after I get it, so I'm interested. The site doesnt have a picture of it (thats easy to find at least), and I find the site in general not layed out very well. They could use a redesign there for sure.
I also know you are having a board built with the mic-alls. Scary! You must really like them then!
Let me know anything else about them you can... I KNOW they can't be better than Behringer! ;)
Thanks!

Here I Am... Here I Am...

tubedude,

I believe you already asked me what I've compared my DaviSound pres to and I aswered. Please refer here:

https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=31730

I also replied to a comment The Axis made about the website in the above thread.

In regards to your question of the TB-6 ("Mic-All" pres) being of the transparent or colored type , I answered that in the following to BH:

https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=31547

As for a picture of the TB-6, well there are front, back, and in mid construction pics of a custom 8-Channel TB-6 here:

http://members.aol.com/lhd523/WoodYou.html

By the way, those are my actual TB-1 and TB-3...

Also, the attachment pic is that same custom TB-6 earlier in construction that can be found on the "Tool Boxes" page.

As far as the price having you concerned... Realize since this is a CUSTOM shop, a good portion of what you're paying for is labor! I can tell you they DO raise their prices as material costs increase... And I have observed their prices raise significantly over the last year as a result!

And I think you getting 4 "Mic All" pres in the TB-6 is a direct result of using their own in house IC op-amp and the simple fact that no transformers are used in the signal path; which is quite a cost concern with any quailty transformer worth using. Most expensive materials are probably the power transformer and case materials (which they cut and assemble themselves)!

Can't be better than a Behringer? hehe... Well I CAN say from MEMORY (no "in the same room comparison", the "Mic All" pres are just as good as Grace Design and Great River! As I said before, I wish I could have all 3 in the same room at one time!

By the way, the 3124 IS a DAMN fine 4-Channel pre if you're looking for the color type... Different animal compared to the transparent TB-6 though! Oh, and I'm sure a good portion of that $2500USD for the 3124 is in the 8 transformers in the signal path AND in the simple fact it has the letters "API" on it!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Oh, By The Way...

If you or anyone else is interested, I can post an mp3 or two using the "Mic All" pres in my TB-3 with a Neumann TLM-103. One song I have in mind is a rap song... I know it's not every's "cut" of tea here, but that's not the point...

The other is a little "audio scratch pad" my brother did for a new song he wrote recently so our band (The Hand Merchants) can get the basic jist, feel, and form of the song so the rest of the band can write their parts.

Besides, anyone who was asking about some recent Hand Merchant recordings, well, this is not really the band, but you'll get an idea; then again, after the ENTIRE Hand Merchants get ahold of it, it's certain to be an entirely different song!

By the way, guys, what's a good, reliable, and free mp3 server now days? Thank You.

Gidge where do you get all this cool info

Here I am at 1:34 am (eastern) and listening to the jay dragon band play civilized man and tappin my foot and boogie'n around my system and IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT.

If I am late for work tomorrow and have to fire myself IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!

grump grump grump, tap tap tap, boogie boogie boogie I like this band.......

all is forgiven

RE,
You may have misunderstodd my skeptism... I was skeptical at how LOW the price is. If you put it in the Great River grouping, well, that would be an easy buy for $650.
Thanks for the info and the links to already answered questions! :)
I'm sure I'll love the API's :)
