Alright soooo Im looking for some answers to some of my questions. Im going to get a mixer that will hook up to my computer using a USB port on the mixer... My question... I want a cheap software (90-120$, around there) so i can record with my computer... All i would need is my mixer hooked up to my comp and software? is that all (not including mics cables, i have that already...) Is every software compatible with a mixeR??? i have no clue... =/ As long as my mixer is hooked up to my comp using a USB i should be good to go right? Please i need some help on what will be all i need to get started... thanks

pretty much every mixer with usb comes with software, most with cubase le

Yeah, for a setup like that, a mixer with usb would be fine with the only problem being that usb only transmits a stereo signal... If you were to mic say, 8 things at once, you would be limited to 2 tracks. Firewire would be better if you are going to be recording more than 2 things at a time. And yes, the software should be compatible with just about any interface or mixer.

...

O alright sounds good! SO basically cakewalk would work with any mixer with USB i guess? yeah im pretty sure... im a solo act so i wont be recording more thatn 2 things at once for now... thanks dudes!

You should be fine - most non-ProTools-based hardware will work with most software... its just a matter of setting your software to interface with it, which isn't difficult at all.

I would suggest using Reaper. www.reaper.fm. Hit that site and check the forum for people using the board you are thinking about getting. That software is in your price range and for me, it has outperformed more expensive softwares I have used.

I don't own a USB mixer, but I imagine that they interface best with software which specifically supports them. Audacity is good free software, but I don't know about USB mixer support...
Cheers,
Crispin

+1 for Reaper.

You won't be sorry.

For me personally, my Cakewalk doesn't get fired up anymore, It's Reaper now.
