Don't stare at the eye.
I know you used to have your PM's turned off--and what with the current PM problem, I figured I'd just call you out.

So, besides building mics, do you repair 'em? I've got an EV RE-20 that needs fixin. If it's even in your strike zone, let me know, and I'll describe the problem in detail.

Thanks!

WS

I've got an EV RE20 that has the baby rattle syndrome. Is that what is wrong with yours WS?

So yeah I need mine to be repaired as well.
Guess this will turn into the repair/fix it thread.

didn't mshilarious say he was gonna only be in the cave from now on?

Ask not what your HR can do for you .................................

Yep, that's it. I've taken it apart just enough to see what's causing the baby rattle syndrome--but that's as far as I go without ruining it.

same here WS! I really got to get this fixed.
I posted in the cave for MSH did he respond to you yet?

what was it?

Best as I can recall...there's a black plastic disc that sits on top of the diaphragm, but underneath a piece of clear plastic film. The rattling occurs when the glue that holds the black disc breaks lose, and the plastic disc now moves freely under that piece of clear plastic film. Under low pressure conditions, the mic still works fine--and sounds great--'cause the low pressure isn't enough to rattle the lose piece of plastic. But under high pressure (screamo singing or kick drum use, for example) the black plastic disc moves about and adds a very pronounced vibrating noise to the recorded sound.

Yeah to bad. I think there should be a recall on all EV RE20s if this is a common phenomenon.
Or at least fix mine for free! :D

ah that's good to know! when you said rattle, i thought you meant something loos inside the main body of the mic..

That capsule fault will be covered by the UK warranty i told you about ;)
