Hey Linux People...

That sounds very cool.

I wouldn't consider myself a linux genius but I can get around (kinda :D)

I would totally look into this. It wouldn't cost me anything and Linux is a free OS...what more do you want.

I do have one question though.

What is a "ALSA" sound card? I wonder is the Delta 1010lt, or similar cards would be supported? If not the guy that has developed this will have to spend a lot more time changing the software to incorporate these sound cards before it's really worth using.

Definetly good to see something like this coming up though. I am a HUGE fan of linux...and it's free!!!! :D

I'm building a new DAW and plan to have a linux partition so I can explore not oly Ardour, but also everything around the Linux Agnula project, Rosegarden, and others... (it's been almost a year since I ran Linux at home, so maybe this weekend I'll get it all up and running again as I just bought a new 80gig drive)

"Agnula (acronym for A GNU/Linux Audio distribution, pronounced with a strong g) is the name of a project funded by the European Commission (number of contract: IST-2001-34879; key action IV.3.3, Free Software: towards the critical mass).

AGNULA's main task will be the development of two reference distributions for the GNU/Linux operating system completely based on Free Software (i.e. under a FSF approved Free Software license) and completely devoted to professional and consumer audio applications and multimedia development. One distribution will be Debian-based (DeMuDi) and the other will be Red Hat-based (ReHMuDi). Both will be available on the network for download and on CD. "

Now I am getting really excited about this. In the time it's going to be time for me to actually get a PC ( I have a laptop right now) I'm sure the software will be ready for me to try. I wish I could do it now.

But I think my linux expertise needs to get better before I go recompiling the kernel to minimize latency:p

Check out all the linux posts from the last month. IT seems something is growing here. Maybe we should ask for our own forum....

Seriously, for ardour, wait a few weeks. They are in the proces of making a all in one package to make it simple for "less proficient" linux users to install and get running. In the mean time, it changes quickly, docs are not updated as fast etc... Have a bit patience, check a bit later.

In the mean while you might learn about building low latency kernels and asla, you will need it (until 2.6 is there which includes both).
