Nice Greg. Is it strictly for recording or will you use it to play out live?

Well the original intent was for recording only, but it's got me strongly considering taking my shitty music to the people.

Pretty hard not to want to hear those amps pumping out some sound into a decent sized room.

Update:

The 50w JCM 900 MkIII in my original post is gone. I worked on it the best I could to get it to bias set properly, and got close, but ultimately it never acted right.

So, I returned it and got another one - Voodoo amps modded 100w model. This one's way better. :)

How are you checking tube voltage ? I bought on of those eurotube sockets that plug into a tube socket and then the tube goes in it. Gives a better reading. I have a Peavey JSX and XXX head and the test points they provide on the back are notorious for being inaccurate. I think the eurotube site has a video on setting the Model you have. The covers look in nice shape. I've been buying alot of vintage Music Man Amps and recovering them top to bottom and replating all the hardware. A lot of fun and the recovering is really easy to do. Anyway, nice purchases and its a good thing you were not looking for a couple stacks to begin with or you would have come home with a "Mega Stack" like Mr Youngs.

I use a bias probe socket from amp-head. Check the plate voltage at pin 3 of the power tube socket, do a little math, and compare it to the reading from the bias socket. Turn the little screw to set the bias. Voila.

I've recorded a couple of 5150II amps that were heavily modded by voodoo.

Trace does amazing work on amps. My bassman was modded by them and it kills. Nice score on the 900 greg.

Did they throw merc mags inside?

Thanks. Yup. Mercury transformers and shit.

I was incredible impressed with the modded 5150II btw. Takes all the weird fizzy thin shit out of the higher frequencies, tightens up the low frequencies and even gets rid of that gain jump from 0-1.2 on the gain knob.

Incredible work.

I like the way his V looks on the front better as well:

Yup, I was fimilar with them before, but never heard or played one of their amps. Mine's had like 7-800 bucks worth of upgrades and mods done to it. It sounds kick ass. :)

Here's some fresh pics:

Very nice. It's interesting that they seem to love Ruby tubes for everything. I've had 2 amps redone by them and both time that was the company they went with.

They sound really good though.

I must say the 5150 they did in the pic I posted sounds 100% better than a stock 5150, it's like they took the small amount of undesirable traits and got rid of them.

Loved what they did to my bassman as well. Well worth the hour drive over to get things done. After having one of those modded 5150s in twice I'm seriously considering having it done to mine. Sounds so good.
