Mainly his live shows at the Ash Grove in Los Angeles. I used some EV 664s into an Akai 4 track as I recall. Albert was a wonderful guitar player, and one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. He loved his Acoustic 261 that I designed and we kept in touch for a number of years.
I remember one night when he was playing and he had the amp really cranked - and it started feeding back like a son of a bitch. Normally, he would grab the guitar volume and drop the level or swing around to block the feedback, but that night, the feedback was in key. A slow grin spread across his face, and he started bending the note - and the feedback followed his bend.
The rest of the night was hilarious, with Albert playing around like a kid with a new toy, exploring all the possibilities. I just sat in the sound booth, tears of laughter streaming down my face, listening to what Albert probably first sounded like when he started playing the blues. Very slow, very deliberate, but you could hear the inspiration and the love of the music shine thru.
I've witnessed a lot of wonderful musical moments in my life - that was one of them. Thank you for reminding me of that one.
